One of the youth football drills (if you can call it a drill) that I like to do with my players is at the end of practice, after we do our running.

End of Practice Drill

I like to get the boys in 2 groups that we, the coaches, try to make even. Then we put 2 cones about 40 yrds down field.

Next we put the boys in a single file line and the object is to have them run about 5 yrds and we throw them a pass.

They race down around the cone and back to us handing us the football thus starting the next player to repeat the same until the entire line is done–thus having a winner.

We let the player, after the catch, try to strip the ball from the other runner. We let them block them just no tackling or cheap shots.

The kids just love the competition and forget that they are running another 80 yrds of sprints or more. We usually go best two out of three, the loser team has to carry practice equipment to the coaches cars after football practice.
