In today’s video blog post, we are breaking down the proper football stance for your defensive players. This is a very powerful football stance, allowing you to get penetration across that line of scrimmage.
Football Stance for Defense: Breaking It Down
In the primary football stance, 60% of the weight should be forward, and 40% in the back.
- At shoulder width apart, stagger the feet (for example, right handed stagger) with good heel to toe relationship.
- The hand on the ground always corresponds to the staggered foot.
- The back is flat.
- The eyes are looking straight through the opposing players eyebrows. Never look at the ground.
- The thumb of the up hand should be pointing up, ready to strike so that when he comes out of the stance, the block becomes a natural progression.
