If you’re looking for a method to encourage your defensive youth football players to push even harder during the game, consider using a production points system.
Here’s an example of a production points system:
- Defensive Touchdown = 10 points (for all players in on that play)
- Caused Fumble = 5 points
- Interception = 5 points
- Sack = 5 points
- Hatchet = 5 points
- Fumble Recovery = 5 points
- Tackle for a Loss = 3 points
- Unassisted Tackle = 3 points
- Assisted Tackle = 3 points
- Pass Deflection = 2 points
- Polish = 2 points
- Missed Tackle = -1 point
- Loaf = -5 points
- Critical Mistake = -5 points
- Missed Take-Away Opportunity = -10 points (for all players in on that play)
Production points provide a way to encourage youth football players to be proactive and make life tougher for the opposing team’s offense that evening, by both giving points and taking them away.
